Default How many of you have built a stand for your FCG??

Do you have any pics?

How'd it work?

I'm thinking I'd like to throw the FCG in one of my upstairs windows (until I have the time to build a crypt for her), but I'm not too keen on drilling into the ceiling of my 105 yr old historical home.

I've seen a couple on the web, but they were pretty "rigged", which isn't really how I operate.

I'm thinking I'll probably go with 1-1/2 or 2" pvc.

Any thoughts/ideas/experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Steve

I used 3/4" or 1" galvanized aluminum poles. they come in about 10' lengths. I pounded the ends flat, drilled holes in them, bent them at an angle and then mount them to the FCG frame to create a tripod. Worked in my house last year, and was reusable in my new house this year.

I built mine out of 2x4s:

They would probably be overkill for an indoor stand, though.

We did the pvc stand for ours. It was just 1/2 schedule 40 we used.

All we did was make a"box" out of pvc and screwed the fcg to it. It worked out fine for us. We used the threaded pvc pieces and the 3-way pieces in the corners.

Alright... well because I'm a fuggin' idiot and I have to over-complicate EVERYTHING, I just spent $50 and 1/2 a day building a stand instead of putting a few hooks in the ceiling.

It's 1-1/2" PVC... the center two "supports" slide, so I can position the FCG wherever I want along the stand. As you can tell, I wanted something that wouldn't be visible from outside, and I didn't want it to block access to any areas of the house.

Sorry 'bout the crappy pic, but with the light coming in the window the pic was really dark, so I had to crank the brightness in my editor.

That's about the same route I went, but I used some scrap 2x2s. Adding a couple of short pieces at 45° angles for bracing really helped to sturdy it.

I small screw or screw-eye will do the trick, it leaves pnly a small hole and all it takes is a little blob of spackle to "repair" it. I don't get the "I don't want a hole in my wall, ceiling, etc."

In retrospect, you're absolutely right... but I didn't think of it that way until the money had been spent and the pipe had been cut!

For a couple bucks you can get ceiling spackle to cover the hook holes. No one would ever see them. I built a PVC frame for outside because I wanted the ghost in a spot where I couldn't hang it. If you doing it it inside a frame makes no sense at all.
