Default Asbury Park, NJ Zombie walk October 30th, 2010

We recently found out that the Asbury Park, NJ zombie walk was scheduled for October 30th. I sent an email to the zombie walk committee pleading for them to change the date and they sent me back this very nice email. I tried.

Subject: NJ Zombie Walk
Date: Tue, 02 Mar 2010 16:45:50 -0500
From: Jason Meehan <zombiesbiting@me.com>

To Elaine & the NJ Haunters,

We have heard your recent comments regarding our next Zombie Walk on October 30th. Allow us to illustrate how we reached our date.

We reached this date after meeting with members of the Chamber of Commerce in Asbury Park. Asbury Park's cooperation and support are key components that make the zombie walk possible. Without them, we could not pull this off. BUT, having the Zombie Walk on First Night was completely destroying Asbury's time honored tradition of a city-wide festival on the first Saturday of each month. A lot of people are involved in planning First Night, working very hard and putting a lot of resources into bringing this wonderful town back to vibrant life. Our Zombie Walk was ruining all that, and making businesses, residents and townsfolk quite upset.

The town reached out to us and asked us to move it back. They presented Halloween weekend as the best option for both parties. They have been struggling to provide a family oriented Halloween event and our event could certainly bring the kind of celebration they are hoping for. With the backing of our community, having our Zombie Walk on Halloween weekend meant that we could combine our resources and expand the festivities across the entire town (instead of just a corner street). We're expecting close to 3,000 this fall and we need the help of Asbury Park to make it possible. Logically, this was the best mutual solution for us, the town and zombies.

We understand that NJ Haunters work hard too, creating and building spectacular haunted attractions for their respective communities. And we know that many of you are avid fans of the Zombie Walk. We do care very much and are listening. We sent out a survey this Winter to over 2,500 fans in New Jersey and asked what you wanted. By far, the largest request was that there was too much time before the walk.

We listened, and so we have moved the Zombie Walk up, so that it occurs in the early afternoon. We are quite aware that the majority of people will be celebrating Halloween on Saturday. And we don't want to compete with all the haunted houses and parties. So the 2010 Zombie Walk will start and finish before sun down, so that everyone will be free to wrap up, head out and enjoy the evening as they choose. We invite you all to come early and participate during the morning and afternoon, before returning to the envious task of scaring the life out of the masses. If you cannot make it out, we will certainly miss you and hopefully you will be able to attend other Zombie Walk events this year as we plan them.

Many thanks,

Jason and Christina Meehan

This just SUCKS!!! I sent them an email too..I'll have to see if I got the same response. Oh well, I guess we'll have to skip it. And if they continue doing it that weekend, we'll have to go join another one somewhere!

Just got this off of the Asbury Park Zombie Walk Website. It looks like they most likey will have a zombie walk other than October 30th. I will update this thread if I find out any information.

Outbreak feared to be largest in the world

Details are limited at this time.. experts predict preliminary outbreaks to hit during the spring and summer months.. local authorities promise additional details and news to be released soon.. stay tuned to this website for updates during the ongoing development of this story...

I sure hope they decide to have at least one other one that we'd be able to go to. Thanks Sharon for the update. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I think it's a little dumb they couldn't have it, say, in the middle of the month. Their first Saturday isn't affected, haunters in NJ don't have to miss out and get to go to all the walks (if there is more than the one), and it's really a win win isn't it? And lots of towns don't have Halloween events near Halloween anyway because of all the nonsense they fear is going to happen.

Personally there's just too many people that went last time to really get to enjoy any activities they offer after the walk anyway. Even if they do get to spread out it still doesn't seem like there would be enough room for all the people that they are anticipating to come.

I just hate to have to add the NJ Zombie Walk as one of the many Halloween events that I won't get to go see/participate in because of how ridiculously close it is to the actual Holiday date. :|

Understandable though. (I hate to say it.) How many people (not haunters) plan a party the weekend of , or go to a carnival or whatever? Because "it" is a "holiday" an event is scheduled on or near it. (sigh)
