Default NJH June Torture

June is around the corner. June 2nd and 3rd I'm busy, and NJ/PA is scheduled for the 16th. That leaves the 9th, 23rd, and the 30th. I'm available for all 3 dates but would prefer the 9th or the 23rd.

This meeting is supposed to be low Key as we discussed doing a few gravestones and BSing. I also want to demonstrate my mounting technique for extra sturdy tombstones. Since using this technique 4 years ago, I've never had a single tombstone break or blow over.

If you want to participate in my mounting technique , Just bring some 2" thick pink foam and some 1/2" PVC and some Great Stuff..

Those dates work for me, though I'm not sure if Bob can get any more low key than he's been the last two meetings. Any lower and he'd be six feet under.

Hopefully the seemingly never-ending remodeling I'm doing at my house will be completed soon and I'll be able to turn my attention to prop-building once more. I want to put the sealer on the Creep so I can put him away and put the clothes on the Grave Escape so it can go away as well.

Also sitting in the middle of my garage is a huge hope chest which I had planned on refinishing, but after getting the steamer trunk I don't know that I need it anymore. At least not for that purpose. Maybe I can convert it into a coffin -- it sort of looks like it already -- or maybe a Monster-in-a-Box, though NoahFentz gave me one the other day (also now sitting in my garage...sigh).

Having just cleaned out my garage recently, I've managed to fill it right back up and have no room to move around again. So that's a priority too after remodeling.

But tombstones would be good, and I glued up a whole bunch of thinner foam the other day and want to carve them into tombstone shapes soon. So that's a good project for the meeting.

I have to check my calendar but Im sure me and my father will swing by for the June meeting.

I actually took a personal day tomorrow and me and my father are going to attack the cauldron hardcore...I need to get this project done so I can move on to others at this pace Ill never be done for Halloween.

At the next meeting I was thinking about working on a grave peeper or what ever they call it. I believe it was Noah that had his at one of the NJ/PA meetings who perfected the movement of the head straight up and down which looks awesome... I may need to contact him for assistance...

That was Joe, he used a vent motor and some wooden guides and Eyehooks I think. Perhaps if he checks our thread he can post a link to his thread on the peeper. If he doesn't post, I can help you easily replicate the project.

I actually just helped Jeff work on it this past Sunday. We used an off-center circular cam to get it to rise up and down. I have some video I'll be posting soon which clearly shows how it's done.

I'm looking forward to seeing that video. I don't quite remember seeing Noahs version. I remember at my first NJ/PA meeting, Joe had made a version perhaps inspired by Noahs.

Let's pick a date. 9th?? 23rd??

Im thinking the 23rd it will give me time to get the materials I need together and finish my creep at home. I am going to need vent motors, Rich you never placed that order right? I remember you asking a while back.

Anyway looking forward to those videos Im going to look for a how to on this project later I think Joe might have even made one.

Thanks guys for thinking of me....I was inspired by the Jeff Baird's learing prop. We completed the can after a year but was still not happy with the motion. I've gone thru the archives to see the evolution of what I envisioned....

http://www.hauntforum.com/showthread.php?t=19579

I saw IMU posted his up and down prop...

http://www.hauntforum.com/showthread...light=pop+prop

from there Hpropman perfected it with a deer motor...

Like GhoulishCop said we wounded up using a off centered cam....The results were outstanding. We had to do some tweeking but in the end it ran without fail ( until I bring it out this Halloween). Looking forward to see the video....

The biggest limitation we had with Jeff's Creep in a Can was the size of the garbage can, or its height rather. That's what prevented him from doing something more along the lines of what Joe had done. We didn't have enough room to have the arms move around like Joe did.

The off-centered circle made the mechanism more compact while still allowing the movement Jeff wanted. The video will probably be up tonight.

Here's the video. The relevant portion starts at the 5:35 mark.

Jeff wanted the head to rise up straight up to just under the nose, which was about 5" in height. So accounting for the distance to the bolt on which the cam spun, the cam ended up being about 7-1/2" in diameter. The bolt was set 1-1/4" in from the edge giving the head its 5" rise out of the can.

As I said, Jeff didn't have much room to work with we needed another way for the head to be able to move straight up. Originally I was thinking of an egg-shaped cam which would have been centered with its "pivot point" (or whatever the heck you call it) but that would have required more space than we had too. In the end the off-centered circle worked out just right.
